Corwyn stuck a coin in the CD drive of my PS3. The sticker got ripped off the side, so the service warrenty is void. I opened the thing up and the CD drive is in a fort Knox style case. Can ANYONE help me?Huh?

That sucks a lot! Did you put your PS3 up higher so this doesn't happen again?

well if the warranty is out it cant hurt to try and stick things in the front to pull it out.  i would try a wire coat hanger.  bent in a hook shape.  you will probably have to hammer it on the concrete to flatten it enough to fit in without damaging the slot.  you dont want to bur it up so it scratches discs.

i would have to imagine a hanger is the only thing with the strength to get it out.  perhaps 2 butter knives.

Well I wound up very slowly taking the cd driver apart until I got to the disk and coin inside. I put it all back together. It boots up just fine, but it's not taking disks. So it's fucked. It was the moment Corwyn shoved the coin in it. I'm depressed. I can't get a new one.

At least I got the disk out, so I won't have to pay gamefly for that. That would just add insult to injury.

if you took the drive apart, did you tap and wiggle the wheels and motors that transport the disc.  it is likely that the gears stripped or motors burned up, but maby they just need a little motivation.

forgot to tell you.  my friend sent his in and paid a bit extra and got a brand new 80 gig.  you may look into sony and see if the price of repair is close to this price.  i think he said his went on the fritz and was not warrantied, but was the first or second run they put out.  he says he is quite pleased.

One of the gears did fall out when I took it apart, and there is the chance I put it back in wrong. As far as paying Sony to fix it, two problems: 1-I am completely broke and will be for awhile. "Fringe" expenses are a no no. And 2- Even if I could afford it, they told me on the phone they won't touch any unit that hasn't got the sticker on the side. Mine had been ripped off, this voiding any chance of sony having anything to do with it.

they didnt fix his.  they traded it for a new one.  well, he paid for it, but not nearly as much as he would had he bought it at a store brand new.  your situation may be different with the sticker being gone.  just go get and old 64, get back to your roots.  maby even and old NES and a little Contra action.

up up down down left right left right B A start baby!
