ok, so i'm fixing to graduate from law school.  i've learned a thing or two, and some of them have been pretty cool.  i've also discovered that the ACLU has a short lesson plan available for a course on knowing your rights, and interactions with the police.  i was thinking about getting in touch with some of my friends, and maybe even branching out to other friends of friends, and seeing if there was any interest in me teaching a class.  this class would not be for any kind of official credit or anything, but the cost for attending it would be pretty minimal (just enough for me to photocopy the materials).

i have had several thoughts about the nature of the class.  i could do a one shot on one evening where i just address knowing your rights and dealing with the police.  if there was sufficient interest though, i was also thinking about teaching a longer term class, maybe over the course of 6 or 7 weeks, meeting once a week for a couple of hours.  if i taught this longer class, we could branch out in to different topics, as the class was interested in.  i could touch on some of the highlights of major court cases that effect you lives, and have shaped the court system into what it is today.  i could maybe address some constitutional law, state criminal law, federal criminal law, family law issues, or whatever folks were interested in.  i was just thinking that i've learned a little bit about a few things through school, and i thought that it would be cool to share it with some folks.

i have to insert this legal disclaimer in here though.  i am not a lawyer, i have not passed the bar, nor have i been certified to practice law in this or any other state.  any information i give out will only be general information about the law, and is not designed to address specific situations that you maybe involved in.  i do not intend to create any kind of lawyer-client relationship.  if you are facing a legal situation, please retain a certified attorney, and if you have trouble locating one, let me know, and i will get you in touch with someone who can help you.

also, on this note, there are folks in our group that have amassed some really cool amounts of knowledge in areas that i know nothing about.  i think it would be awesome if russle and/ or devin taught a class or course on first aid.  or if ann wanted to do a class on bio-engineering, or whatever the hell it is that she does.  or even if she wanted to teach a class on tattooing and piercing and how to pick out a good tattoo artist or piercer, and maybe hit on some of the mechanics of tattooing.  or if nick wanted to run a course on BDSM and safety, or on drugs, drug usage and safety, or even one on fire-spinning.  those are just off the top of my head, stuff that i would totally be interested in learning.  i know there are even more folks out that that have specialized knowledge that they could share.

just a thought.  any one interested?

Dave.... are you really offering legal advice, and then a paragraph later advising me to charge people to teach them how to break the law with sex, drugs, and fire (depending on where you're performing)? ... laugh Fantastic. You made my morning.

Seriously, It's not a bad idea. But when are you honestly going to find the time?

Also, in my experience, if anyone wants to learn a few tricks, they just ask on an as needed basis.
For example, I've been offering free poi lessons to everyone for several years. Though, I only need one hand to count how many have taken me up on it. I've taught (and charged) total strangers waaay more often than I ever get to teach a friend, which I'd prefer. I've tried to get a bi-weekly or monthly class together, but there just isn't enough interest, that I can find.

I AM going to start a Belly dance class/get together once a week or bi-weekly when i move back at the end of July, (yes, Roy and I are staying together  we have an official "Move Back"date). I will not be charging as it has been many years since i danced, but will be taking classes with a few of my old colleges to get back on track and pass the knowledge to my friends. I then hope to upgrade to a studio where I can charge strange people to be taught, friends will always be free Wink. This is open to as many as I can fit into whatever place we end up finding and is not just limited to girls. There are some great cardio moves and stretches and strength building exercises that go along with being able to roll a quarter down your stomach and then back up again Wink Dave! I am interested in taking a form of martial arts and am looking for advice from multi sources. Roy has suggested a few styles and I am wondering what you suggest. And remind me to call and ask Taylor too... I am also going to start beating Roy Wilson with foam swords at Bay Area Park once or twice a month with my Roy and Quin for anyone else who wants to join, the new playground equipment is AWESOME!! Wink But will not be affiliated with another park again! Just to clarify...

I am also interested in attending the class that Dave is suggesting . With this group you never know when a little Law Jargon and know how could save one of our asses  Tongue. And I think a First Aid class would be great for all us parents who never took one (that means me, not trying to insinuate anything about anyone else Wink)And if we made it a yearly thing we could update the info and the kids could start to join as they get old enough to absorb and process the info, and we get really well rounded, educated kids! Take that all those people who think delinquents can only raise more delinquents!!

I think also we should plan, if just once or twice a year, a camp out/ get together of some kind where we work on these skills and COSTUMES WE KEEP TALKING ABOUT!!!!!
I know that not all of us want fancy complicated costumes or party tricks or, you already have them and are satisfied with the results, but really?!?!
We have been talking about some very simple things for YEARS and they are still sitting on a shelf when it would take a day or two to get everything done if we just all got together on it and helped one another... Some of us have houses we have offered up to have gatherings at and I KNOW I'm not the only sewer in the group and definitely not the best or most creative (been hanging with Johnny and Malice lately... I am so ashamed of myself for not having something put together, it is amazing what they do with the simplest things!!!) And yes our schedules are all fucked off but if we plan a few months in advance then we should be able to get a rather large turn out... We all seemed to make it to Faire once a year Tongue....

Ok... end of my rambling Rant, but believe me i could go on and on and on and on and on......

I remember talk about getting people together for the concealed gun permit class thing.  I'm sure there are classes we could take to get CPR certs etc as well (especially with some tutoring from Devin/Russel).

Alyria - re martial arts:  We've been talking about this in another thread for a while as well.  We have a somewhat varied selection of classes available.  Let me know if you and Roy want some more info on this, as I've got most of their websites bookmarked, etc.

Also, I'd totally love to be able to roll a quarter up and down my stomach.
