This is an exert from an email I received from a friend I correspond with in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Personally I find it sad, yet accurate. On the subject of U.S. war crimes...

I'd love to see some sort of commission or legal review take place to find out what really happened - if for no other reason than to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

I'd like to see anyone guilty of a crime be made to pay for their crime.

However, being a foreigner - I have limited expectations of any USA government representative being held accountable.

We tried Saddam, and the Nazis, does the U.S. get a free pass?

My perspective as a foreigner?? Yes it does - and it has in the past and it will in the future. That's what happens when you're the boss of the world (and a nuclear power)... nobody holds you accountable. The only people who can hold the USA accountable are the citizens of the USA.

I think the world needs to support Americans who wish to make their country better...

I just don't see the will of the American people moving in that direction. I think most of us non-Americans resigned ourselves to that reality a long time ago. The world is under the thumb of the U.S.  and no one, not even the U.S. her self is capable of knowing what horrors it might be responsible for all over the world. How many times did you guys try to assassinate Castro? hah What if it was the Cubans killed JFK, would that be acceptable?

yea, they do get free passes.  you know what the rest of your list there has in common?  they all lost wars.  the victors always get to write the history books.  it ain't right, but its reality.  i notice that mao ze dong, joseph stalin, and ho chi minh all committed much, much worse war crimes than the dudes listed (with hitler as the exception) but they didn't lose the wars that they were involved in.  no one remembers them today as the villains that they were.  history is in love with the winners, and no matter how hard people try, their winning always seems to somehow balance out their crimes.  i dunno.  its something that has always bothered the shit out of me.  everyone mentions hitler when they talk about evil historical figures, but stalin easily killed over 25 million of his own people, including burning entire villages to the ground because of political opposition.  for some reason in the historical perspective, this isn't as bad as killing people because they are the wrong (to the killer perspective) race.  they are both just as dead at the end of the day.

i know this is a total side tangent, but it just irks the shit out of me.
