Ground rules:  We are discussing a politicians plans for improving the country here, not how moving their speeches on the subject are.  How does your candidate stand, what will they do if elected, what have they done in the past, etc.  I don't think everyone needs to start citing every source, but don't be surprised if someone asks you for evidence of of a claim or two.

Please stay away from personal attacks, against politicians and each other.

Obama on stem cell research (Wikipedia)
McCain on stem cell research (Wikipedia)
A comparison of both candidates (The Pew Forum on Religion and Politics)

Both candidates are a trade up from Bush.  I'm in favor of Obama here, McCain seems hesitant to allow additional lines of embryonic cells to be available for research, and he's stated that he is only in favor of stem cell research because he thinks a ban would be ineffective worldwide.

In my opinion, it seems  that McCain only reluctantly supports the idea for the corporate aspect. There is money and progress to be made here. He realizes that despite any "bans" we put on it, other nations (who actually listen to the scientists they employ) are going to surpass us drastically scientifically if we don't do something.
But yes, he does want to progress with it, and I applaud him enthusiastically for it. At least no one wishes to continue the horrid, misguided bush notion of "it kills babies" bullshit the white house has been throwing out. The embryos that were initially targeted for use are the unused embryos from crygenic labs that are already marked for destruction. I never understood an ounce of sense bush claimed to make here. AND now, thanks to the crackheads in charge, scientists have actually found a detour around embriotic use, stem cells can actually be replicated from skin duramatter.
Think of it as bio-organic recycling.
