This is rediculous. I can't believe (actually the sad thing is, I CAN) this shit is happening...
Keep in mind, this is happening in the KIDS VILLAGE. This is where people take their very young children at these festivals to play and be safe...

It happened at the 2007 Rainbow Fest as well. Ask Carly about it sometime. She was hanging out in the Family camp when S.W.A.T. busted in and started arresting the organizers of
THE RAINBOW FESTIVAL
for being terrorists..... She got held up at bean bag gun point for picking up a small child that was crying...
I love the world today....
I'm gonna go cry now......

I don't know if it's a recent thing or not, but I've been reading a lot of articles about situations where law enforcement officials, rather than doing things in any kind of calm and rational manner, they just assume they need to use force and go in ready for a fight. It's weird. My best guess is it's a symptom of the paranoia our media and government are facilitating.

Well the hippies WERE throwing rocks at the the cops. But that's because one of the cops (the one who is acting all commando the entire time with his fucking pepperball gun) shot into the crowd of kids. THEN shot the three hippies that were keeping the rest from bumrushing all the cops. Seriously. Why isn't this video being used as evidence for excessive force charges.
One Fucking rule: DON'T. SHOOT. AT. KIDS.

the whole thing just seems ridiculously unnecessary. why are they wasting their time for a couple of stupid weed cases? is all that really needed to throw a couple of hippies in jail for a couple of dime bags?
i have no quarrel with the whole use of force thing, when it is justified. but the key is justifying it. for something like that, instead of sending in a handful of cops with pepperball guns, they would have been much better off, and safer all the way around by just using alot more officers. no one would have had to use the pepperball gun at all because of sheer numbers. bad tactics, bad planning, piss poor execution, and as a cherry on top, nothing worth speaking of to show for it all. what a waste of time and money. and poor public relations to boot.
i really wish they would up the cops salary across the board and start having much higher standards for hiring. college degrees required, more extensive training, firing assholes when they did shit like this. i mean, there has been a movement to "professionalize" the law enforcement field. in the past, if you were a big ol' white boy, you got the job. cops back them really were little more than the brute squad. nowadays there has been a movement to prefer college grads, and people with degrees but that is still not the across the board rule. they still hire guys fresh out of the military. there is still alot of that mentality there. the problems is attracting the professionals. the pay is still way too low.
fuck. in a perfect world.....
then again, in a perfect world, we wouldn't need cops.

You're right, in a perfect world we wouldn't need cops. But we do, so lets try to have the best cops we can. I'm totally with you on raising the education standards for most of our civil servants. Our teachers, our social workers, our law enforcement... It seems like those agencies are forced to keep their standards low because of a lack of funding. The answer is either redirecting tax money, which would cut some other programs funding (I suggest the "war on drugs"), paying more tax, or privatization.
Privatization scares me, honestly. I think it could possibly be done successfully under very particular circumstances, but I don't think it's likely to happen.
I'm all for redirecting tax money from programs I don't support.
I forget who it was, but one of the politicians running for the Democrat or Republican party had a plan to make it to where when you do your taxes, you have a choice about where you'd like your tax money to go.
I think Obama also has in mind some reforms for the way we do taxes, but I don't think that was his plan. Might have been Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, or Mike Gravel.

Ron Paul believed in NO TAXES. He said he would dissolve the IRS and all debt owed to it in the first week. All special projects that werent expressly written to be nessisary by the constitution would be removed. National Bank, the Fed. all of it. He wanted my kind of America. An america where the gov. shuts the fuck up and just deals with trade between stats and other countries and defended our borders from outside forces.
Everything else is on the states.
Thats something i can fuckin get behind. Since he didnt win, i dont care who does. I dont like either one, but since im against all social programs, i dont like Obama. I dont like gov. interference, so im not a big fan of the republican guy either.
Oh well, the world ends in 2012. Until then we can either expect higher taxes and more government spending from the black guy and more security eroding powers by the old guy.

I like ron Paul with one major exception, he wants to privatize everything. Including healthcare. I can't suppport this. The HMOs have way too much power as it is. Because of this, we are the third WORST civilized nation in healthcare. This is my main concern, and the reason I support Obama.
And to refer to what dave was talking about concerning civil servants and the disorganized structures, EMS and Fire are the worst. Not only are these fields usually lumped together AND expected to work for free. 'Volunteer' departments prevent me from making a half- ass decent salary. Three years schooling and multiple licences I had to test out to earn and security guards make as much as me on an ambulance, forcing me to work nights at a damn hospital. Every state has different protocols, which means no one can communicate without hinderance.
