Realm of Ramith

To give you guys a clearer explanation of what I do (and to bitch), most of the time, I work in a nice office in Houston where I do normal Sys Admin/IT stuff.

Some days, however, I spend out in the field.  Literally, the oil field, walking around in mud (made with spilled oil well water – taste the extra salts, bromides, and toxic chemicals!) working on some monitoring equipment.

Because having stuff shut down costs the company money, getting stuff back up and working is paramount – so I can be here pretty late.

I snapped a couple of pictures from the field that I’ll post later, showing the meter site where we are working, and my tiny closet of responsibility, the PLC shack.

Anyways, I’m bored, tired, dirty, and hungry, so I figured I’d take 5 minutes to bitch/explain.

So, the site was down for most of yesterday.

Sorry about that.  I had a breaker pop, and then a hardware failure on the server that hosts this stuff.  Its all back up and online now.

Don’t forget, at Thud’s Starbucks, Rythym is playing at 7:00PM tonight.  Check the forum for more details.  I’ll try to make it, but I am damn tired.

EDIT:

Turns out, there was an intermittent hardware glitch in the raid controller on this system, so it’s been going up/down for the past few days.  That should be fixed now as well, so the site should be solid again.

Thats how far I drove this weekend, to take my dog to my parents, get to fair, and back again to the casa.

Saturday night was excellent despite the rain that soaked everyone’s stuff. We hung out with Dutch and his Amsterdam relatives (and Nasty thought they’d be too old to make good camping neighbors! – hah!) for quite a while, relaxing under a tarp around a fire.

Next weekend, Spanky and Nasty are going to be out at TRF early (Spanky should be there when the gates open Thursday at 8:00AM) and rope us off a huge section. I’ll be there Thursday night after family business is concluded.

A bunch of us are planning on staying until Monday – I know I’ll be there.

Don’t forget -Last weekend of TRF is Nasty and Pearl’s birthday!

So, an update on the car issue:

My car needs a new transmission.  Thankfully, that is covered by the warranty, so I’m not out a huge amount of cash.

It should be fixed sometime by mid next week.  Until then, I’ve got a rental car (also covered by warranty) so I WILL be out at TRF this weekend.

I almost went insane last weekend without a car, and no fair.

I’ll see you lads and lasses out there at my normal time (4:00PM ish on Friday)

I can’t make it to fair – I’ve got car problems.

My transmission needs some attention.  Luckily, it is covered under warranty, so the cost to me shouldn’t be too high.

I could go to fair if someone could pick me up and take me there – but I’d need ome way to take care of my dog as well, so it looks like no fair for me this weekend.

SUCKS ASS.
